Idea may be looking for looking for launching a new mobile phone with 4G services at a price of Rs 2500. A few weeks back Reliance Jio launched its 4G mobile phone in the market at the price of Rs 1500.
“One of the concerns is about net neutrality. It will not allow most of the apps which a customer prefers and the choice of apps may not work because it is forcing consumers to use an individual operator’s apps,” said Himanshu Kapania, the Managing Director of Idea Cellular.
Himanshu Kapania also described that the operator is working with mobile phone manufacturers to launch a 4G phone but it is little expensive than Jio’s phone.
From PTI reports that Idea is looking to launch its own 4G device. “The practical solution that we are working on is to work with handset industry and work with them to be able to bring down cost of handsets by bringing down the bill of material, so that the gap of the announced price of Jio feature phone versus a smart phone can be brought down to reasonable levels.”
As per reports from ET, Himanshu Kapania said to analysts, ”While we have no intention to subsidise handsets, both handset manufacturers and telecom operators need each other to make sure that the offering to the consumer is strong enough when you have to make a choice between a bundle offer and telecom operator with a locked handset.”
He said that the phone cost is around Rs 2500. In phone users have the freedom to choose the operator of their choice, also access the popular apps like Facebook, Google or WhatsApp. Also, the smart phone will be featured as the option of switching between 2G and 4G.
A few weeks back Reliance Jio launched a 4G phone of Rs 1500. For the phone, buyers have to pay a deposit of Rs 1500, which would be returned after 3 years. The features of the Jio device including Voice control, apps like Jio Cinema, Jio Music, JioTV and more.
