Padmavati is based on a fictionalized account of Rani Padmini, and Alauddin Khalji’s persistence to possess her as his royal courtesan. It also tells a tale of how the Rani and other women in the palace committed self-immolation to escape Khalji’s dynasty.

There is way too much hype about Padmavati and we’re sure that it will live up to it. With a stellar cast of the trio, we’re counting days till 1st December. All the posters were released at dawn and the trailer came out today at exactly 13:03.

There is a reason behind the pinpoint timing.

On 26th August 1303, Alauddin Khilji had attacked and captured Chittorgarh. The legend is that Khilji also befriended Ratan Singh. After successfully capturing Gujarat in 1299 CE and then Ranthambhor in Rajasthan in 1301 CE.

Chittorgarh was his next target and was ruled by Ratan Singh (played by Shahid Kapoor). It is said that there are two reasons why he wanted to capture Chittorgarh; first was Ratan Singh not allowing him to go through Mewar to capture Rajasthan and the second was the eternal beauty Rani Padmini.

This only shows how much attention to details the makers are giving to history.
